10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Psalm 51: 10-12 (King James Version of the Bible)

  1. The Catholic invitation to Anglicans cotianns a clause that has not been commented on.In return for no women as priests, no openly gay priests, no kindness towards gay relationships, and allowing priests to keep their wives, the Pope is requiring condemnation of contraception. In today’s world contraception is needed by millions of women, many suffering. The tragedy of unwanted babies add to the populations with increasing hunger and water shortages. Promiscuity should be countered by showing what is better, not by allowing unwanted babies and abortions.Anglicans who join the Catholic church need to recognise the Pope’s requirement. The best way for family limitation is to educate women. This is because women then seek the best for the children they have, and know what options there are. ‘Fate’ is not the determinant. The Catholic Billings method is only suitable for the well-off and healthy. Many Catholics do not obey the Pope in their own family life; what will Anglicans who take up the Pope’s offer do? What will priests’ wives do?

    • Juan – the pope is not “requiring condemnation of contraception”–the Catholic faith looks at sex within marriage as a creative, life-giving force. The Church herself condemns any artificial barrier to that force. Of course, Natural Family Planning (NFP) is available to Catholics and uses the female body’s own cycles to know when pregnancy may or may not occur. No “birth control” is 100% accurate. I would hope all Anglicans who have decided to join the Catholic Church do so understanding all that is involved. As one who made that move myself, I understand their concerns.
